    • United Kingdom, England, United Kingdom
  • Estate Management

Job description

Are you passionate about protecting the natural world and ready to make a real impact? If you dream of working outdoors, restoring landscapes, and fighting invasive species head-on, this is the internship for you. Step into the frontline of conservation with a hands-on role that’s as gritty as it is rewarding—one that places you at the heart of nature restoration across the spectacular Afon Arth catchment. This is your opportunity to gain field-based experience, restoring habitats, protecting biodiversity and shaping the future of our environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This internship is perfect for someone eager to roll up their sleeves and get stuck into practical conservation. As an Estate Ranger Intern at Esgair Arth Estate, you’ll support a range of vital estate and environmental work – from restoring habitats to maintaining access paths and supporting the daily rhythms of estate care. Working closely with the local estate team and conservation specialists, your time will be split across several exciting focus areas:

  • Environmental Restoration: Lead the charge against Himalayan balsam and Japanese knotweed, maintain hand tools, and carry essential field kit.

  • Project Support: Assist with outdoor improvements including path maintenance and logistics, and help map invasive species.

  • Health & Safety: Contribute to Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), identify hazards, and help uphold safety protocols for fieldwork and volunteers.

  • Documentation & Research: Support the team with written documentation, basic data logging (e.g., INNS records), and small research tasks such as balsam ecology.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Help develop local stakeholder lists and support land access planning activities.

  • Taking Opportunities: Be ready to jump into new tasks and explore learning opportunities as they arise!

This is a physically demanding, mostly outdoor-based role involving long days in remote environments and all-weather conditions — including working in or near water. It’s challenging, fulfilling, and truly unlike anything else. Your adventure starts here.

  • Environmentally Minded: A real interest in rural environments, conservation work, and community relationships.

  • Positive & Enthusiastic: You bring great energy and a can-do attitude to the team.

  • Motivated: Independent & Reliable: Able to take initiative, work independently, and be trusted to do a great job.

  • Physically Fit & Resilient: You’ll be outside in all conditions, on uneven terrain, and often near water — and you’ll love every minute of it.

ABOUT US

Oxygen Conservation was founded in 2021 by the Oxygen House Group and Dr Rich Stockdale with a bold mission: Scaling Conservation. We acquire land at scale to deliver environmental and social transformation, creating profit as a result — not the purpose — of what we do. In just three years, we’ve assembled a portfolio of over 43,000 acres dedicated to restoring nature.

Our vision is to protect and restore 250,000 acres by 2030, backed by £1 billion in natural capital assets under management. Whether it’s peatland restoration, woodland creation, or regenerative farming, we’re redefining conservation with passion, precision, and purpose.
