Job description
Are you ready to see how finance can drive real environmental change? At Oxygen Conservation, we believe that every spreadsheet tells a story, and ours is one of restoring nature at scale. As our Finance Intern, you’ll step into the engine room of a mission-led business, helping to power projects that protect wild places, restore biodiversity, and build a nature-based economy that works for people and the planet.
From supporting month-end reporting to contributing to our Net Zero journey, you’ll gain hands-on experience across the full finance function of a fast-growing environmental company. This internship is a chance to see how numbers can change the world. If you’re organised, analytical, and curious about the intersection of finance and environmental restoration, this is your opportunity to be part of something extraordinary.

ABOUT YOU
As a Finance Intern, you’ll gain a broad foundation in finance while working within a purpose-driven, impact-focused team that genuinely embodies the values of Environment, Impact, Adventure, and Togetherness. You’ll be surrounded by people who care deeply about your development and are committed to protecting and restoring nature. If you’re organised, analytical, and curious about how finance supports environmental impact, we’d love to hear your story.
Motivated by the role finance can play in tackling climate change.
Excited by the intersection of sustainability and financial rigour.
Comfortable with spreadsheets, reconciliations, and process documentation.
Detail-oriented and eager to improve systems and accuracy.
Open to learning, adapting, and contributing to a dynamic finance environment.
Driven to support a fast-paced, mission-led business.
Collaborative, kind, and a great communicator.
And let’s be honest, you must be really nice too. Sharing snacks on long journeys or a packed lunch whilst out in the driving rain is mandatory!
We believe in recruiting exceptional people and creating opportunities that allow you to do incredible things. You don’t need to look or sound a certain way to belong here. We value each person’s individuality and the unique strengths they bring.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for a Finance Intern to jump into the heart of our finance team, supporting financial operations that underpin some of the UK’s most ambitious conservation projects. From helping to close out month-end to preparing audit deliverables and gathering data for our Net Zero strategy, you’ll get hands-on experience in a high-impact environment where numbers meet nature.
We don’t expect you to have every skill listed below. What matters most is that you love diving into the detail, enjoy solving problems, and want to learn how finance can be a tool for real environmental change.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Net Zero Reporting: Become the data detective for our planet, gathering sustainability metrics, spotting gaps, and helping build smarter systems that track our journey to Net Zero.
Period-End Closure: Help tie up the month-end loose ends by preparing reconciliations, supporting journal entries, and keeping our numbers neat, tidy, and on time.
Operational Finance Support: Be the go-to helper for everything from expenses to invoices, supporting the team that keeps the financial gears turning smoothly.
Audit Support: Team up with our Management Accountants to prep for audit season, collecting data, double-checking the details, and making sure everything stacks up beautifully.
Finance Controls & Process Improvement: Get creative with controls by reviewing records, refining workflows, and exploring clever automation or AI tools that make finance fly.
ABOUT US
We’re building the UK’s first genuine Natural Capital portfolio - acquiring large landscapes, restoring them, and creating investable Natural Capital products like premium carbon credits, biodiversity units, renewable energy partnerships, and ecotourism experiences (you can check them out at Oxygen Escapes).
In just four years, we’ve grown to a valuation of around £300m with 50,000+ acres owned and helped connect over half a million acres for nature.
Our mission is simple: prove that restoring ecosystems can deliver transformative environmental, social, and financial returns.
Our work hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2022, we were named Start-Up of the Year at the Business Leader South West Awards, followed by Team of the Year at the 2023 Edie Awards and our nature fundings agreement with Triodos won ESG Deal of the Year at the 2024 Insider South West Dealmakers Awards. Our founder and CEO, Dr Rich Stockdale, is featured in the ENDS Power List as one of the top 100 UK environmental professionals driving significant impact, and was shortlisted for Edie’s Leader of the Year Award in 2024.
