Job description

Are you passionate about interior design that connects people to place? If you’re inspired by sustainability, nature, and the idea of shaping meaningful experiences through design, this could be your next adventure.

This is an opportunity to develop your creative skills in real-world projects that align with our mission: Scaling Conservation. Every space you help design will inspire people to reconnect with nature, slow down, and see what it means to live lightly on the planet.

Job requirements

ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for a creative mind with an eye for detail, a love of the natural world, and a passion for design that blends aesthetics with purpose. You might be a student of interior design, or architecture, or simply someone with a deep creative drive and a strong sense of style rooted in sustainability.

You’ll thrive on collaboration, be ready to learn fast, and bring an adventurous, can-do attitude to every project — whether you’re preparing a mood board of finishes for an off-grid cabin or sourcing reclaimed materials for a forest retreat. You’ll be surrounded by people who care deeply about your development, creating positive environmental outcomes, and truly live the values of Environment, Impact, Adventure, and Togetherness.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about sustainability, circular design, and nature-inspired interiors. You believe good design can create positive impact.

  • Drawn to natural materials, biophilic design, and spaces that tell environmental stories.

  • Organised and detail-oriented, with an ability to manage multiple creative projects.

  • Strong visual and spatial awareness, with a knack for layout, texture, and tone.

  • Proactive, hardworking, dedicated, curious and self-motivated.

  • Eager to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment

  • Excited by the challenge of designing for real-world impact — even when that means muddy boots and field sketches!

  • Warm, open, and collaborative — you love working with others and sharing ideas.

  • And let’s be honest, you must be really nice too. Sharing snacks on long journeys or a packed lunch whilst out in the driving rain is mandatory!

We believe in recruiting exceptional people and creating opportunities that allow you to do incredible things. You don’t need to look or sound a certain way to belong here. We value each person’s individuality and the unique strengths they bring.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Interior Design Intern, you’ll support the design and development of Oxygen Conservation’s future ecotourism properties — working to align every space with our conservation values and distinctive brand identity. You’ll be involved in creating concepts, research, and visualisation, helping to ensure that every design choice reflects the beauty and purpose of the landscapes we care for.

You’ll work alongside our Property and Ecotourism teams: contributing ideas and assisting with design documentation, supplier research, and presentation materials. From lighting and finishes to furnishing and storytelling details, you’ll help craft interiors that make a lasting impression.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design Concepts: Assist in developing creative interior design concepts for ecotourism properties that reflect our brand, ethos, and environmental values.

  • Visualisation: Create mood boards, sample palettes, and digital/physical visualisations to communicate design ideas.

  • Project Support: Assist with drawings, layouts, or presentation decks for design reviews and prepare costings for budgetary approval.

  • Estate Immersion: Explore our stunning rural estates, in person or online, to see how landscape, architecture, and interiors connect to create a unified sense of place.

  • Storytelling Through Design: Help design spaces that tell the story of place — connecting guests to our mission and the wild landscapes they’re exploring.

ABOUT US

We’re building the UK’s first genuine Natural Capital portfolio - acquiring large landscapes, restoring them, and creating investable Natural Capital products like premium carbon credits, biodiversity units, renewable energy partnerships, and ecotourism experiences (you can check them out at Oxygen Escapes).

In just four years, we’ve grown to a valuation of around £300m with 50,000+ acres owned and helped connect over half a million acres for nature.

Our mission is simple: prove that restoring ecosystems can deliver transformative environmental, social, and financial returns.

Our work hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2022, we were named Start-Up of the Year at the Business Leader South West Awards, followed by Team of the Year at the 2023 Edie Awards and our nature fundings agreement with Triodos won ESG Deal of the Year at the 2024 Insider South West Dealmakers Awards. Our founder and CEO, Dr Rich Stockdale, is featured in the ENDS Power List as one of the top 100 UK environmental professionals driving significant impact, and was shortlisted for Edie’s Leader of the Year Award in 2024.

KEY INFORMATION

  • Term and Start Date: A fixed term (3 month) opportunity.  As a result of ambitious project programmes, we will require our Interior Design Intern to have availability to start during the first half of 2026.

  • Location: Remote (UK-based) with regular travel to our estates
